Travel, travel, and more travel has been my life lately. I came home from Kauai only to leave shortly after for a figure skating competition in Oakland (which I'm happy to report I took second and third in my events). Days later I flew to Chicago and then Boston. Things have been moving fast: my book is going out to editors in the next few weeks; my business is growing rapidly with many changes on the horizon as it expands; and I'm training hard in skating. There hasn't been much free time, but every chance I have I'm at the salsa clubs. Something has happened with my dancing. I'm no longer thinking about the steps, but instead allowing my partner and the music to move me. It's a wonderful feeling to let go and just dance.
A new dance partner recently said to me, "You shine with how you live your life. Don't let anyone ever stifle that or ask you to change, because so few people know how to live with such passion." His words surprised me. We had just met and he didn't know anything about my list of dreams, this website or how I'm trying to live my life. But lately, comments like these have been a regular occurrence.
Then again, life has been magic and I'm humbled by its gifts. Not only have new dreams come true - learning to fly a plane and surf - but I've been able to experience some of my favorite dreams all over again: scuba diving, vacationing in Kauai, hiking Half Dome, salsa dancing, and of course figure skating. It seems the things that I believed would be once in a lifetime experiences have become a way of life. My cheeks hurt with how much I've been smiling and maybe that's sending out a glow that's become obvious to others.
This reminds me of a few quotes by Wallace D. Wattles in The Science of Getting Rich. (I've paraphrased a bit.)
The purpose of Nature is the advancement and unfoldment of life; and every man should have all that can contribute to the power; elegance, beauty, and richness of life; to be content with less is sinful.
That which makes you want more money is the same as that which makes the plant grow; it is Life, seeking fuller expression.
The universe desires you to have everything you want to have.
I love these quotes. They say to me that our desires for our dreams to come true aren't selfish or wrong but simply life wishing to live more within us. The more we experience the wonders of this world, the incredible playground we've been gifted, the more life can express itself.
So often I hear the words, "I envy your life and the way you live it." All I can say in return is that I'm no different from anyone else. I have bad days, insecurities, fears, and hurts. But three years ago, I began to believe that it was possible to have everything I desired. In turn life began to express itself more fully within me. I'm not alone in doing this.
If people all around the world decided to choose to go after their deepest desires and to allow happiness and life to express itself more fully within them our society would rise and have more to give to those who need a little help. The more we choose to sit on couches or computers watching life on a screen instead of getting out and living fully the more we deny this incredible gift we've been given.
It comes down to each choice you make - does what your doing lift you and allow life to express itself more fully or are you simply getting by? I'm beginning to realize that our whole purpose in living this life is to live it as fully as possible - to overflow.
